Leapmotor's hottest small car is edging closer to Australia. The company has told CarExpert it is in talks to bring the B05 Ultra here, the sportier version of its Golf-sized electric hatch, after New Zealand locked the car in for the second half of 2027.
More power, chasing the hot hatches
The B05 Ultra is the export take on China's Lafa 5 Ultra, which produces 180kW and 255Nm, up from 160kW and 240Nm in the standard B05. Leapmotor claims the Chinese car runs from zero to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds with the 56.2kWh battery, or 6.2 seconds with the larger 67.1kWh pack, well clear of the regular Leapmotor B05 at 7.5 and 6.7 seconds. The Ultra gets an aggressive bodykit, 19-inch wheels, and a ride height 10mm lower than standard. The MG4 EV XPower, with 320kW, remains the quicker and more extreme rival.
Cartell Assessment
Managing director Andy Hoang says timing is not confirmed, so treat this as firming rather than locked. Still, an affordable electric hatch with real pace is exactly what the segment is missing.
AU Outlook
Nothing is signed for Australia yet, and local specifications and pricing are still to come. New Zealand points to a 2027 arrival.
