Ford has issued a recall for 1,085 Ranger utes and Everest SUVs in Australia, covering 2024 to 2026 build vehicles fitted with the 10.1 inch centre touchscreen. The campaign number is REC-006748.

Why it is a safety issue

A manufacturing fault can cause the centre screen to go blank. When that happens, the reversing camera image may not appear while the vehicle is in reverse. Ford's notice warns that losing the rear view raises the risk of a crash that could seriously injure or kill someone behind the car.

Cartell Assessment

This is a small recall by volume, but the Ford Ranger is the best-selling vehicle in the country, so even a narrow batch is worth taking seriously. A blank screen that kills the reversing camera is exactly the kind of fault that catches people out in a car park, and the repair is free, so there is no reason to delay.

AU Outlook

Owners of affected models will be contacted in writing and asked to book a free fix at an authorised dealer. You can check your VIN against the list on the vehiclerecalls.gov.au notice, or call Ford on 13 36 73. The Ford Everest shares the same screen hardware, so Everest owners should check too.
