Tesla is clearing existing and demonstrator stock in Australia with fresh discounts across the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, as a wave of cheaper Chinese electric cars piles into the segment.

What is on offer

Demonstrator and existing Model 3 Premium rear-wheel drive examples are now listed from $57,733 drive-away, a saving of $3,530. The Model Y continues to run a stock discount from $61,020 drive-away, which is $2,950 less than before. Tesla has also trimmed the Model Y Performance to $84,900, down from $89,400. The base Model 3 still opens at $45,900 before on-road costs, though that grade is not part of the stock clearance.

Cartell Assessment

The timing is no accident. The Geely EX5 has arrived at $41,990, the BYD Seal Premium starts at $52,990 before on-road costs and the Zeekr 7X opens at $57,900, so Tesla is defending a price band it used to own outright. Clearing demonstrator and in-stock cars is a quick way to stay sharp without permanently cutting the retail price, and for a buyer ready to sign now, the Model 3 Premium at $57,733 drive-away is the pick of the bunch.

AU Outlook

With Chinese brands launching almost monthly, this will not be the last round of Tesla discounts before the end of the year. Watch for the stock offers to deepen through November as both sides chase the run to the new-year plate change.
