BYD Australia has put $4,000 cashback on most of its popular range, or a 0.99 per cent comparison-rate finance deal instead, with buyers choosing one, not both. The offer spans the BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute, the Sealion 5, Sealion 6 and Sealion 8 SUVs, and the Seal 6 sedan and Touring wagon. Orders run from 1 October to 21 December 2026, with delivery required by 31 December.
The terms
The $4,000 is a flat cashback including GST. The finance alternative is a 0.99 per cent comparison rate over 36 months with no minimum deposit and no balloon, and must be approved and settled by 21 December. The electric BYD Sealion 7 sits outside the cashback and instead gets a novated-lease discount. For context, BYD's Atto 1 is already the cheapest new car in the country at $19,990 drive-away, so the brand setting the price floor is now handing money back on its bigger sellers too.
Cartell Assessment
When the cheapest brand in the market starts discounting its volume models, every rival feels the pressure. For a buyer already cross-shopping a Shark 6 or a Sealion 6, $4,000 off or near zero interest is a straightforward reason to sign before Christmas.
AU Outlook
Expect the established brands to answer with their own run-out deals into December. BYD has the room to keep pricing hard, and a delivery cut-off of 31 December is built to clear stock before the plate year ticks over.
